Members of the National Guard have faced disciplinary action following the disappearance of 13.6 kilograms of explosives from a military firing range in Larnaca earlier this year. Despite an internal investigation identifying procedural and oversight failures, no criminal offenses were established, and the exact circumstances of the missing explosives remain unclear.

The explosives vanished on January 29 during an engineering exercise at the Kalo Chorio firing range when a planned detonation failed. Both military and police investigations were launched, but the police probe was shelved in April due to lack of evidence and no suspects were identified. Authorities have found no links between the missing material and any criminal incidents.

Concerns continue over security at military training sites, especially as the firing range has multiple entry and exit points, complicating monitoring efforts.
