💰 Republic of Cyprus Donates €380,000 to Committee on Missing Persons in 2024
The Committee on Missing Persons (CMP) received a €380,000 donation from the Republic of Cyprus on Monday, bringing total contributions since 2005 to €4,772,700. The funds will support the CMP's operations in 2024 and help advance its humanitarian mission to locate, identify, and return the remains of missing persons from Cyprus' intercommunal conflicts.
Since becoming active in 2006, the CMP has worked to find 2,002 missing individuals, exhuming 1,717 bodies and identifying 1,069 from the official list, plus 217 others. Identified remains include both Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots. Last year, 23 remains were recovered, with 12 identified.
In addition to Cyprus, the CMP receives support from other nations and organizations, including a €2.6 million donation from the European Union in January and £15,000 from the United Kingdom in March.
