💊 Cyprus Trade Unions Oppose Proposal to Lower Nurse-to-Patient Ratios in Private Hospitals

Trade unions SEK, PEO, Pasyno, and Pasydy have jointly opposed a proposed amendment by the health ministry aimed at reducing the minimum nurse-to-patient ratio in private hospitals. The unions warned that the change would compromise patient care and increase risks to patient safety.

The unions emphasized that lowering staffing levels represents a backward step, claiming it would delay response times and exacerbate the already high levels of nursing burnout. They argued that the amendment would strain healthcare workers and degrade the quality of services provided in private healthcare facilities.

Expressing strong resistance, the unions urged the health ministry to withdraw the amendment and prioritize public health by maintaining safe staffing levels. They stressed the importance of legislative measures that support rather than undermine the healthcare system and patient safety.
