Today in Nicosia and across Cyprus, a variety of cultural events are taking place, showcasing film, dance, and visual arts. The Images and Aspects of Alternative Cinema Festival at Hambis Printmaking Museum features tributes to landmark filmmakers and experimental works, with a highlight screening of David Cronenberg’s Videodrome. Meanwhile, the 27th Cyprus Contemporary Dance Festival presents ODE by Elena Antoniou at the Municipal Theatre, exploring themes of female presence and collectivity.
In film screenings, young director Rafail Nikolaou Loukaris premieres his short film Bloodied Scores in Nicosia Capital Center Square, reflecting on the Tempi tragedy. The Film Club also screens the Spanish comedy Homo Sapiens with Greek subtitles at Pantheon. Concurrently, numerous exhibitions are ongoing including children’s paintings at the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics, photography contests, and group shows at venues like Art Seen, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, and Leventis Gallery.
Other cultural highlights include installations and photographic displays in Limassol, Platres, Larnaca, Paralimni, and Paphos. New film releases such as Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day and Gus Van Sant’s Dead Man’s Wire are also currently showing at RIO cinemas in Nicosia Mall and Limassol.
