🧒 Court of Appeal Revokes Bail of Three Charged with Child Abuse in Famagusta
The Court of Appeal has overturned the Famagusta District Court's decision to grant bail to three defendants charged with multiple child abuse offenses. The accused, a father and his two sons, face a total of 122 charges relating to alleged violence, sexual abuse, psychological harm, and threats against children in the same family from 2013 to recent months.
The appellate court highlighted the deplorable living conditions endured by the victims, including beatings, confinement, and lack of food. It found the lower court had underestimated the risk of flight and potential interference with witnesses, noting one complainant reported contact attempts by a defendant. The court also stressed a visible risk of reoffending despite the defendants' previously clean records.
The legal service had appealed the initial bail decision, which the Court of Appeal supported. The trial of the three defendants is scheduled to commence on July 16.
