👮 Acting Paphos Mayor Announces Cleanup Plan for Deteriorated Minoos Area

Acting Paphos Mayor Angelos Onisiforou has revealed that a comprehensive cleanup and restoration plan for the Minoos area, known as Psarohori in Kato Paphos, will commence on Wednesday. This follows a severe decline in the site's condition since its opening in 2021, with reports of people sleeping rough in the area and extensive vandalism to facilities built with public funds.

The site, spanning roughly 10,000 square meters and including buildings, green spaces, and a playground, is adjacent to major archaeological sites and popular tourist attractions. Onisiforou highlighted the occupation of public toilets and the adverse impact on the nearby mosque, arguing that the conditions are incompatible with a European city. Responsibility for the neglect was attributed to multiple bodies including the Police, Social Welfare Services, Health Services, and Paphos Municipality itself.

The mayor stressed the urgent need for coordinated action involving cleanup, increased policing, social intervention, and restoration of public facilities. He emphasized the municipality's commitment to restoring order and dignity to the neighbourhood, calling the current state of the Minoos area a "shame" and highlighting the imperative of transforming it into a clean and well-maintained space for residents and visitors alike.
