🧒 Child Injured After Jumping from School Window Amid Language Barrier Concerns in Turkish Cypriot Schools

A child at a Turkish Cypriot school jumped from a second-floor window after failing all classes except foreign languages, as he does not speak Turkish. The child, who is not Turkish Cypriot, is currently in stable condition and undergoing scans to check for injuries. Turkish Cypriot Education Minister Nazim Cavusoglu described the incident as unfortunate and confirmed the child is not in life-threatening condition.

The event highlights ongoing concerns over the influx of non-Turkish-speaking children in northern Cyprus's public schools. Opposition figures have noted that many students struggle with Turkish, prompting calls for preparatory classes to help new arrivals adapt. While Cavusoglu initially proposed legislation requiring language proficiency certificates for non-Turkish Cypriot students, this plan was criticized by teachers' unions and subsequently dropped. Preparatory classes have yet to be implemented by authorities.
