Cyprus has been ranked first globally for voluntary unpaid blood donation relative to its population size, according to the Health Ministry. The country collected 74,279 units of blood, positioning it at the top of international per capita rankings. This achievement reflects the strong sense of solidarity and social responsibility among Cypriot citizens.

The ministry emphasized that voluntary blood donation is a critical pillar of the health system, helping to ensure adequate supplies for hospitals and emergency situations. Regular donor participation supports the proper functioning of healthcare services across the island.

Health authorities and the blood centre expressed gratitude to volunteer donors, highlighting their essential role in sustaining care for patients needing transfusions, including accident victims and those with chronic or serious illnesses.
