👮 54-year-old released under conditions in Cyprus terrorism case

The Larnaca District Court has ordered the release under conditions of a 54-year-old suspect involved in a terrorism case, scheduled to be tried at the Permanent Assize Court on August 6. The court ruled that while there is a visible likelihood of conviction for the other accused, the evidence linking the 54-year-old appears weak, leading to the rejection of his detention request.

The suspect must post a €1 million bail with financially reliable guarantors, surrender his travel documents, and report to a police station four times a week. He denies involvement, claiming his connection arose solely from packages containing suspicious materials handled by relatives. Notably, this individual has lived in Cyprus for 40 years and has four children serving in the country's security forces.

Two other suspects in the case, aged 32 and 38, are alleged members of Hamas and accused of plotting attacks against Israeli targets in Cyprus. The court also noted the arrest of the 57-year-old brother of the released suspect, against whom no evidence has emerged.
