🛩️ Cyprus-Based Nireas Yacht to Compete in Aegean 600 Offshore Race in July
The Nireas, a privately funded yacht jointly crewed by Cypriot and Polish sailors, will participate in the demanding Aegean 600 offshore sailing race next month. The race covers 600 nautical miles around the Aegean Sea and attracts professional and semi-professional teams from across Europe. Based in Ayia Napa Marina in Cyprus, Nireas underwent recent technical upgrades and crew training to prepare for the event starting July 5.
Owned and captained by Maciej Gorecki, the Nireas project combines sporting ambition with long-term organisational goals. Designed by Italian naval architect Maurizio Cossutti, the yacht is built for professional racing campaigns and represents a collaborative endeavour aimed at sustained development in offshore sailing. The team highlights Cyprus’s growing maritime infrastructure as a strategic advantage for its operations.
Beyond competing, the Nireas initiative seeks to foster greater involvement in offshore sailing within the region, including encouraging youth participation in related activities. The Aegean 600 race will serve as an important milestone in the team’s ongoing journey in international sailing competitions.
