🧒 Robotex Cyprus 2026 to Host Largest Robotics Competition Post-Covid with Over 700 Registrations
The 9th Pancyprian Educational and Athletic Robotics Competition, Robotex Cyprus 2026, returns this weekend at the University of Cyprus sports centre with the largest turnout since the Covid-19 pandemic. Over 700 registrations from 137 organisations highlight the rapid growth of educational and sports robotics across the island. The event, held on June 27 and 28, will include various competitions such as line following, Sumo, drone handling, and a special girls' firefighting contest aimed at encouraging female participation in technology.
Organised by the Cyprus Computer Society in collaboration with several institutions and supported by governmental ministries, Robotex Cyprus offers free public access to competitions, technology demonstrations, and educational activities. The event reflects the impressive development of the robotics sector in Cyprus, with Panicos Masouras, president of the Robotex Cyprus Organising Committee, noting that over 300 people currently work in the wider robotics and STEM sector on the island.
Beyond local contests, Robotex Cyprus serves as a platform for teams to advance to international stages, including Robotex International in Seoul this year. Cypriot participants have gained recognition globally despite the country's small size, competing successfully against larger nations. The competition also fosters skills crucial for the future labour market such as programming, creativity, and collaboration, while calls are made for stronger cooperation between schools, universities, businesses, and the state to further develop robotics education in Cyprus.
