🌍 Four Political Forces Support Bizonal Solution in Cyprus, ELAM Opposes

The members of Cyprus's National Council were briefed on the latest developments in the Cyprus dispute during their first meeting with the newly formed assembly. President of the Republic informed the Council about ongoing efforts to restart negotiations based on UN Security Council resolutions for a bizonal, bicommunal federation solution. According to the government spokesperson, all political parties recognized the recent momentum in the process.

Political parties DISY, AKEL, DIKO, and ALMA expressed their support for the initiatives led by UN envoy Maria Angela Holguin and welcomed Secretary-General Antonio Guterres's efforts. However, ELAM remains opposed to the bizonal bicommunal federation model. Representative Phidias Panayiotou refrained from expressing a definitive position, stating that his party, Direct Democracy, will decide on the issue in the future.

The consensus among most parties was to maintain unity and respect diverse political views while acknowledging the positive developments in the peace talks aimed at resolving the long-standing Cyprus conflict.
