📰 Cyprus advances in digital public services and connectivity but must improve accessibility and AI adoption

Cyprus has made notable strides in digital public services, connectivity, and business digitalisation, achieving extensive gigabit coverage and full 5G availability in 2024. However, the European Commission’s 2026 Digital Decade report highlights the need to make online state services more user-friendly, inclusive, and better connected. Despite three-quarters of SMEs reaching basic digital readiness, adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) remains low, posing risks to competitiveness.

Cypriots increasingly use digital platforms not only for interacting with public authorities—where 70.1% of people aged 16 to 74 engaged online in 2025—but also for health-related information searches, with Cyprus ranking among the highest in Europe. The Commission urged Cyprus to accelerate the rollout of mobile health applications and ensure inclusive access to e-health services.

Digital skills gaps persist, especially among older populations and those with lower education levels. The report recommends targeted initiatives to prevent digital exclusion as Cyprus advances its €0.98 billion Digital Decade roadmap. While public support for digitalisation is strong, citizens emphasized the necessity of protecting privacy and regulating AI development, underscoring the demand for secure, accessible, and reliable digital public services.
