👮 Cabinet Recommends Suspension of Former Prisons Director Anna Aristotelous Following Court Ruling
The cabinet has recommended reinstating the suspension of former prisons director Anna Aristotelous, following an Administrative Court ruling that annulled the previous suspension decision. The court found that the cabinet was not the correct authority to recommend her suspension when she was still serving at the Presidency, as the Presidency was responsible at that time.
The recommendation was made during an extraordinary cabinet meeting and submitted again to the Public Service Commission (PSC), which holds the final authority on the suspension decision. Deputy government spokesman Yiannis Antoniou emphasized that the cabinet only recommends but does not decide on suspensions.
This development comes amid ongoing criminal proceedings against Aristotelous related to confidential documents linked to the Central Prisons, seized during a police investigation into an alleged scam involving a convict reselling prison canteen goods. The case, which began in April 2025, entails scrutiny of approximately 300,000 confidential pages believed to have been removed illegally.
