👮 Cyprus court rejects asylum appeal of Cameroonian man citing lack of credibility
A Cyprus court has dismissed the asylum appeal of a 19-year-old Cameroonian man, ruling that his claims lacked credibility and contained significant inconsistencies. The Administrative Court of International Protection upheld the earlier rejection by the Asylum Service, finding no well-founded fear of persecution or risk of serious harm if he were returned to Cameroon.
The man alleged that his uncle planned to sacrifice him for money, claiming to have seen human body parts and a photograph in his uncle's home. However, the court noted numerous gaps in his story, including a lack of evidence such as death certificates for his parents, details of alleged abuse by other family members, and specifics supporting his sacrifice claim.
Arriving in Cyprus in October 2022 as an unaccompanied minor, the man’s initial asylum request was rejected after an interview failed to substantiate his narrative. Despite an appeal filed through the Commissioner for the Protection of Children’s Rights, the court maintained that the evidence did not justify granting international protection.
