🪦 David Hunter, convicted in 2021 Cyprus euthanasia case, dies after urinary infection
David Hunter, who was convicted of manslaughter in 2023 after ending the life of his terminally ill wife in Cyprus, has died at a local hospital following a urinary infection. Hunter's case drew significant media attention and sparked debate about euthanasia and ethical issues surrounding end-of-life decisions. The 78-year-old had claimed that his wife Janice, suffering from terminal blood cancer, repeatedly asked him to end her suffering before she passed away in their home in Tremithousa, Paphos district, in December 2021. After serving part of his sentence, Hunter was released in summer 2023 due to deteriorating health and remained in Cyprus to be near his wife's grave. The couple had been married for 52 years and relocated to Cyprus in 2002.
