📰 New Cyprus Parliament Committees Convene Post-Election to Address Wildfire Preparedness and Legislative Reviews
Parliamentary committees in Cyprus are set to begin meetings this week following the May 24 elections, marking the official restart of parliamentary activities. Key discussions will focus on the government’s readiness for the upcoming wildfire season, with the House interior committee evaluating the adequacy of personnel, equipment, and resources for fire prevention and response.
Several ministers and officials, including Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou and Auditor-General Andreas Papaconstantinou, will appear before various committees to review legislation, regulations, and public policies. The ethics committee will review proposed amendments to asset declaration laws, while environmental concerns, such as waste management and the introduction of a landfill tax, will be discussed in the environment committee.
Plenary sessions are scheduled for early to mid-July, with a special session on July 15 commemorating historic anniversaries. A potential June 25 session may also be confirmed soon, reflecting the legislature’s active agenda in the weeks ahead.
