Authorities in Nicosia are probing a fresh online fraud case after a man was deceived into installing apps that allowed scammers to steal more than €9,000 from his account. The victim received a call from someone impersonating an employee of an online financial transactions platform, who misled him about the security of his account.

The caller persuaded the victim to download a specific app along with multiple money-transfer applications, enabling the fraudsters to access and withdraw funds unlawfully. This incident highlights ongoing risks associated with online financial scams.

Police are urging the public to remain vigilant and caution against sharing sensitive personal information with unknown individuals via phone. Authorities emphasize verifying the identity of callers before taking any action related to financial accounts.
