👮 Paphos mayor vows strict action against vandalism at Historical Documentation Centre
The acting mayor of Paphos, Angelos Onisiforou, has announced strict measures against those damaging the not-yet-opened Historical Documentation Centre. Vandalism caused by skateboarders, scooters, and other vehicles has resulted in damage to marble surfaces, railings, and fixtures at the site. Onisiforou emphasized that anyone caught causing damage will be reported to the police, and the municipality will pursue all legal actions.
Describing the centre as a dedicated cultural and historical space, Onisiforou stated that it is not a recreational area or stunt park. The Historical Documentation Centre, located at the former police headquarters near Kennedy Square, aims to showcase Paphos' history dating back to 332 BC. The project cost exceeds €10 million and is funded through a loan agreement with the Republic of Cyprus and the European Investment Bank.
While encouraging respect for this cultural venue, the mayor reminded the public that other facilities are available for sports and recreational activities in the city. He stressed that public cultural spaces should be preserved and not subjected to destruction or disrespect.
