🎉 Cyprus gymnast Vera Tugolukova's new pivot element officially recognized by World Gymnastics
Cyprus rhythmic gymnast Vera Tugolukova has achieved a historic milestone with a new element named after her by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG). Called the Tugolukovas Pivot, the move involves a side split pivot with a horizontal trunk and a bent free leg and is recognized for its difficulty, requiring a full 360-degree turn for scoring. This makes Tugolukova the first Cypriot rhythmic gymnast to have a skill officially included in the FIG Code of Points.
Tugolukova performed the element for the first time during the 2024 World Cup in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, where it was evaluated and approved by the FIG technical committee. The pivot is notable not only for its complexity but also for its permanence in the sport's global history, as named elements cannot be removed once recorded.
Born in Russia, Tugolukova began competing internationally for Cyprus in 2023 and quickly rose to prominence. She was the youngest rhythmic gymnast at the 2024 Paris Olympics and has won multiple medals in European and World Cup events, highlighting her growing influence in the rhythmic gymnastics community.
