👮 Investigation launched into 24 complaints against political candidates and parties in Cyprus parliamentary elections
The office of the personal data protection commissioner in Cyprus is investigating 24 complaints filed against political candidates and parties following the late May parliamentary elections. Of the complaints, 21 were lodged against individual candidates and three against political parties. Most allegations involve unsolicited phone calls, text messages, and emails containing political advertisements sent to voters.
In addition to these, a separate complaint was made about the practice of calling out voters' names during the election process. These complaints arose after on-site compliance inspections conducted on election day, May 25. The commissioner’s office said it will announce the results once the investigation is complete, as it continues to assess potential violations related to data protection laws in the electoral context.
