👮 29-year-old motorcyclist dies in collision with minibus on Paphos-Limassol highway
A 29-year-old motorcyclist, Demetris Vassiliou, was killed in the early hours of Saturday after colliding with the rear of a minibus on the Paphos-Limassol highway near Limassol. The crash occurred around 3:15am just 1.5 kilometres from his home as he was returning from a night out. Despite wearing a helmet and protective clothing, the motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at Limassol General Hospital.
The minibus, driven by a 57-year-old man, was tested for alcohol and drugs with negative results. Initial police examinations found no signs of braking by the motorcyclist. Authorities have not yet determined whether the minibus was traveling slowly or if speed was a factor in the crash, with investigations ongoing.
Limassol Traffic Police chief Marios Charalambous highlighted the vulnerability of motorcyclists and urged all road users to exercise caution and adhere to the Road Traffic Code, noting that excessive speed frequently contributes to fatal accidents. The investigation into the exact circumstances continues.
