🧒 Ministry of Education launches new framework to prevent school violence and delinquency in Cyprus
The Ministry of Education in Cyprus has introduced a joint framework prepared by the Educational Psychology Service and the Counselling and Career Education Service aimed at preventing and managing serious incidents of violence and delinquency in schools. The policy document offers individualized support for perpetrators, victims, and witnesses to address behavioral issues effectively. Notably, the framework emphasizes supporting perpetrators responsibly to prevent repeat offenses, which would benefit not only the students involved but also schools and society at large.
Educators have expressed hope that this initiative, slated to begin with the new school year, will be sustained long-term, unlike previous programs that were discontinued. A philology teacher from a secondary school in Limassol highlighted the importance of helping all students, especially those marginalized and at risk of delinquency, by assessing them based on their progress and effort within their abilities. Another teacher observed positive behavioral changes among students included in similar programs, noting improvements in cooperation, discipline, and social integration over time.
