🌍 Turkish Cypriot leader affirms no misunderstandings with Turkey amid Cyprus talks resumption efforts

Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman clarified on Thursday that there is no discord between himself and Turkey as efforts continue to restart negotiations on the Cyprus problem. Speaking to Kanal Sim, Erhurman emphasized that he coordinates all his actions regarding the issue closely with the Republic of Turkey, meeting frequently with Turkish officials including the president and foreign minister. He dismissed reports suggesting disagreements over Turkey's stance.

The comments come after unverified reports indicated Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan may have proposed a two-state solution during recent talks with the UN envoy. Following these developments, Turkish President Erdogan reportedly endorsed a new UN initiative aiming for earnest negotiation resumption, underscoring Turkey's pragmatic engagement despite past failures.

Erhurman also stressed that the upcoming expanded meeting involving both Cypriot sides, guarantor powers, and the UN must produce tangible results, contrasting with previous unsuccessful talks. UN envoy Maria Angela Holguin expects this meeting to take place by late July or early August, aiming to achieve lasting peace and stability through diplomacy and dialogue.
