Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, has commended the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union for its successful response to a challenging period marked by rapid developments and high public expectations. Metsola highlighted the leadership of President Nikos Christodoulides and the Cypriot team in addressing key European issues, noting Cyprus's role as a bridge between continents and nations.

Metsola emphasized the Cyprus issue as both a European and national concern, reiterating the necessity of a sustainable resolution based on the UN resolutions and EU law, advocating for the resumption of UN-led negotiations. She also praised legislative achievements during Cyprus's Presidency, including agreements on air passenger rights and the EU-US trade agreement, reflecting Europe’s capacity to deliver results.

Addressing broader EU challenges, Metsola stressed efforts to engage citizens, especially youth, in European matters and combat rising populism and disinformation. She highlighted initiatives such as listening tours and a special parliamentary committee to enhance democratic resilience.
