🌍 Turkish Cypriot leader Erhürman insists on four-point methodology for Cyprus peace talks
Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman emphasized that the content of a solution, not formulas or concepts, should determine the Cyprus settlement. Speaking after a political party council meeting in the occupied areas, he reiterated support for the UN Secretary-General's new initiative and highlighted the importance of a structured "step-by-step" process involving Confidence Building Measures, methodology, a defined negotiating period, and ultimately a solution.
Erhürman expressed reluctance to participate in a 5+1 meeting unless it yields concrete results and criticized shifting unresolved issues from bilateral talks in Nicosia to broader international settings without prior progress. He also addressed the property commission, stating ongoing efforts to strengthen it despite recent decisions by the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers.
Regarding negotiations, Erhürman stressed the necessity of clear rules and shared the need to avoid superficial talks. He affirmed his commitment to a genuine solution and called for consistent, steady progress based on the four-point methodology, which now enjoys international recognition including at the UN level.
