🧒 Witness says Stylianos Constantinou's case should have been classified as high-risk by social welfare
In the ongoing trial concerning the 2019 suicide of teenager Stylianos Constantinou, a key prosecution witness stated that the social welfare services should have classified the case as high-risk. Andreas Andreou, one of the criminal investigators appointed to probe the suicide, emphasized that Stylianos' May 2019 suicide attempt was a clear sign of severe problems requiring urgent intervention.
Andreou challenged the social workers' assessment, noting that official logs documented the attempt merely as an intent rather than an actual attempt, despite evidence the boy tried to use his father's shotgun and had visible injuries. The witness criticized the social welfare services for inadequate response and protection measures, highlighting reported domestic abuse by Stylianos' father.
Defense lawyers cited a lack of training for social workers and emphasized custody removal as a last resort, but Andreou insisted more should have been done to safeguard the teenager. The trial continues as further examination of social welfare procedures is expected.
