🏗️ Coastal Urban Futures exhibition explores sustainable urban development in Larnaca's coastal zone

The Coastal Urban Futures exhibition and public programme is taking place from June 19 to 21 on the coast of Larnaca, aiming to address the challenges posed by rapid urban development in the area. This three-day event brings together urban designers, marine scientists, researchers and local residents to explore alternative futures for Larnaca's coast through drawings, storytelling, discussions, tours, film screenings and listening sessions.

Focusing on issues such as displacement of affordable housing, loss of public spaces, climate vulnerability and ecosystem degradation, the project proposes scenarios where the coast is reimagined as a shared space promoting care and coexistence. Developed over nine months through collaboration among scientists, young urbanists and the community, the initiative seeks to integrate diverse knowledge forms into sustainable urban planning.

The programme also connects local concerns to broader Mediterranean social and environmental themes with activities including a cycling tour, curated film screenings, and open discussions with experts. Events are held at the EVOHK Artist-Run Space in Larnaca’s former oil refinery area near Castle-Pier Square.
