📰 Cyprus House to Approve Committee Composition and Elect Ethics Committee Members
The Cyprus House of Representatives is set to convene at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday to approve the composition of parliamentary committees and elect members to the special committee on ethics. The number of committees remains at 16, with each committee including 12 MPs. The distribution of chairmanships has been agreed upon by the selection committee, assigning five to both Disy and Akel, and three each to Elam and Diko.
Disy retains chairmanship of key committees including foreign affairs, energy, legal, health, and institutions. Akel continues to lead interior, agriculture, labour, human rights, and refugee committees. Elam chairs defence, environment, and transport, while Diko oversees finance, education, and audit committees.
In the recent May 24 elections, the parties Alma and Direct Democracy gained seats in the House, whereas previous parliamentary members Dipa, Edek, and the Ecologists’ Movement failed to secure representation.
