🧒 Fire Safety Education Programme Launched for Cypriot Primary and Secondary Schools

The Fire Safety Education programme for primary and secondary schools was officially launched at Astromeritis Primary School through a collaboration between the Ministry of Education, the Cyprus Fire Service, the Cyprus Retired Firefighters Association, and Bank of Cyprus’ SupportCY. Education Minister Dr Athena Michaelidou emphasized the programme’s focus on fostering a culture of prevention and self-protection from an early age as a strategic educational priority.

Chief Fire Officer Nikos Longinos highlighted that the initiative builds on prior training for educators and extends fire safety knowledge and skills directly to students through modern and experiential learning methods. Bank of Cyprus’ Corporate Social Responsibility Director Elli Ioannidou underscored the critical role of prevention education amid increased risks posed by the climate crisis and detailed SupportCY’s ongoing involvement, including educational presentations and rural fire patrols.

The launch featured speeches from community leaders and interactive activities where students engaged firsthand with fire safety information and equipment. The programme aims to deeply embed awareness of fire prevention and responsibility in younger generations, enhancing the resilience of school communities across Cyprus.
