David Hunter, convicted in 2023 for the manslaughter of his wife, has been hospitalised with heart failure and is in critical condition, according to sources. Hunter, now 78, was found guilty after suffocating his wife Janice, who suffered from blood cancer, at their home in Tremithousa, Paphos in December 2021.

He was sentenced to two years in prison but was released on the same day due to time already served. The attorney general has appealed both the verdict and the sentence. Hunter claimed his wife had begged him to end her suffering, while Hunter himself had previously attempted suicide and was found by police following a distress message to a family member.
