🌦️ Larnaca DLGO launches WhatsApp group for real-time extreme weather alerts

The Larnaca District Local Government Organisation (DLGO) has introduced a dedicated WhatsApp communication group to provide immediate alerts and improve coordination among local authorities during extreme weather and natural disasters. This initiative supports the existing network of 25 meteorological stations developed with KITASWEATHER, which deliver specialised weather data and early warnings across Larnaca city and district.

Through the WhatsApp group, all municipalities, communities, and designated officers in Larnaca will receive instant notifications about severe weather events and natural disasters, such as wildfires in mountainous areas. The system enables rapid mobilisation of relevant services and timely preventive measures by providing clear geographic details of affected zones.

Officials highlighted that using a popular platform like WhatsApp allows faster information dissemination and enhances stakeholder coordination, essential for risk management and protecting lives. Residents can also access the DLGO Larnaca meteorological platform for real-time weather data and early warnings to better prepare themselves.
