🛩️ EU Agrees Landmark Air Passenger Rights Including Free Adjacent Seats for Children and Faster Compensation
The European Parliament and the Council of the EU have reached a historic agreement to enhance air passenger rights across Europe after 13 years of negotiations. Key changes include guaranteed free adjacent seating for children under 14 and their accompanying adults, as well as for passengers with disabilities, reduced mobility, and pregnant women. The deal also maintains compensation for delays of three hours or more, with set compensation amounts based on flight distance, ranging from 250 to 600 euros.
Additional provisions include faster compensation procedures and mandatory airline care during long delays. Transparency on ticket pricing will also improve with airlines and booking platforms required to show the final ticket price upfront. The agreement guarantees passengers the right to carry one personal item free of charge.
DISY and EPP MEP Loucas Fourlas described the deal as a "historic victory for European citizens," highlighting the strengthened protections for families and people with disabilities. The Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU played a crucial role in resolving this longstanding issue, marking a significant achievement for European passenger rights.
