🧒 Limassol removes cycle lane bollards amid public criticism of urban mobility plan

Bollards installed along a cycle lane on Thekla Lysioti Street in Limassol were removed by municipal crews after mounting public criticism over the city's sustainable urban mobility plan. The removal aimed to facilitate the safe boarding and disembarkation of students outside school premises, according to Mayor Yiannis Armeftis.

The municipality sent a formal 11-point letter to the transport ministry requesting corrective actions to improve the ongoing projects, emphasizing the need for practical and effective implementation. The decision followed widespread concerns from residents and motorists regarding the bollards' impact on aesthetics, accessibility, and traffic flow. The issue gained attention after a video showed a driver manually removing several bollards.

The public works department acknowledged the concerns and stated it is working closely with the municipality to find solutions that balance mobility, safety, and public expectations. A meeting between municipal authorities and the transport ministry, led by Minister Alexis Vafeades, is scheduled to discuss potential adjustments to the mobility plan.
