Greece is set to establish a more permanent deployment of its F-16 fighter jets at the Andreas Papandreou air base in Paphos, Cyprus, aiming to enhance defense cooperation with the Republic of Cyprus. This decision follows Cypriot calls for a stable and continuous Greek air presence, especially after a drone attack on the British base at Akrotiri in March. Future rotations may include two-engine F-4 Phantom jets, providing increased operational experience and coordination with the Cypriot National Guard.

In addition to air force deployments, Greek Navy frigates will maintain a continuous presence off Cyprus to monitor and protect the exclusive economic zone claimed by Cyprus. The Elli (F450) frigate is currently on station, equipped with advanced weaponry and defense systems, with planned crew rotations. This naval presence is intended to counter asymmetric threats from the Middle East and bolster the Cypriot Navy’s training and operational capabilities.

Furthermore, a new Status of Forces Agreement between Cyprus and France facilitates joint military operations, exercises, and deployments. This agreement streamlines command structures, operational support, and multinational cooperation, enhancing regional security and supporting France's military role in the area through joint exercises such as Argonaut and EUNOMIA.
