💰 EuroMED Days conference urges stronger economic and technological ties across Europe, Middle East, and Africa
The EuroMED Days conference held in Nicosia on Monday highlighted the urgent need to strengthen economic cooperation, investment, and technological connectivity across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Attended by key officials including Deputy Minister to the President Irene Piki and Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy Nicodemos Damianou, the event emphasized the Mediterranean's rising strategic importance.
Cyprus, acting as a bridge between continents, has recorded some of the highest growth rates in the EU, with technology contributing about 14% of its GDP. Speakers advocated for enhanced joint investments and economic ties to create job opportunities, especially for the younger generation, and stressed the necessity of collaborative production and prosperity across the region.
Key priorities identified for future investment include energy infrastructure, digital connectivity, logistics corridors, and human capital. Cyprus was highlighted as a potential digital gateway between Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, with cities like Nicosia positioned as innovation hubs equipped to test new technologies and bolster urban infrastructure with new financial tools.
