🌍 Cyprus backs restrictive measures against violent settlers in West Bank, supports EU actions in Middle East
Cyprus has expressed its strong support for the promotion of restrictive measures targeting violent settlers and extremist elements in the occupied West Bank, Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos announced after recent EU foreign affairs meetings in Luxembourg. Kombos emphasized Cyprus's backing of actions against those responsible for escalating violence, including political figures inciting unacceptable behavior.
The discussions at the EU Foreign Affairs Council also addressed the urgent humanitarian situation in Gaza, relations with Israel, and the ongoing need to support Lebanon. Kombos highlighted Cyprus’s readiness to consider proposals from the European Commission regarding the EU’s relations with Israel, and welcomed a new EU support package aimed at preserving Lebanon’s ceasefire and stability.
On relations with Egypt, Kombos described the country as a strategic partner and a pillar of security in the Mediterranean region. He called for a more ambitious EU-Egypt partnership, advocating for a broader strategic agreement and improved use of funds to strengthen cooperation on security, migration, and counter-terrorism efforts.
