📰 Strong turnout from Kormakitis and Karpasia residents traveling to vote in Nicosia
A high level of participation was recorded on Sunday as residents of the Maronite and Greek Cypriot communities of Kormakitis and Karpasia travelled to Nicosia to vote at Kykkos High School. Elderly voters arrived early by bus and private transport, with the first group of 29 from Kormakitis reaching the polling centre shortly after 10:30am and a second bus expected later. Many crossed from the north to meet relatives before casting their ballots, and transport arrangements were organised throughout the day.
Among voters was Suzana, 95, the oldest resident of Kormakitis, who arrived in a wheelchair and voted in both the parliamentary elections and the Maronite community representative contest. A 79-year-old from Karpasia also took part, saying she has never missed an election. Maronite community leader Antonis Solomou said turnout remains consistently high, noting about 400 people now live in Kormakitis, four Maronite candidates are standing across parties, and proposals to incentivise younger residents to return are under discussion.
