🌍 High turnout in Athens and Thessaloniki as Cyprus vote counting begins; overseas polling runs smoothly

Voter turnout reached 76% in Athens and 68% in Thessaloniki in Sunday’s legislative elections, and vote counting is already under way across Greece. Officials said the entire process ran smoothly without disruptions and final results for polling stations in the country are expected by about 20:00 on Sunday evening.

Abroad, the Brussels polling station recorded a 70% turnout, with 407 of 583 registered voters casting ballots in the first-ever Cypriot parliamentary election vote held in the Belgian capital; votes from the single Brussels box will be counted sequentially for the six districts. In the United Kingdom turnout passed 50% at two polling sites serving 1,614 registered voters — 921 at the Cyprus High Commission in central London and 693 at the Cypriot Community Centre in north London. Polling opened at 08:00 and is due to close at 16:00 local time; boxes will be sealed, reopened for on-site counts and results transmitted to the Ministry of Interior in Nicosia.
