📰 Petros Nazouzi elected Maronite non-voting representative in Cypriot parliament with 51%
Petros Nazouzi was elected on Sunday as the Maronite Cypriot non-voting representative in the House of Representatives, winning 51% of the vote with 1,606 votes to Marios Mavrides’s 1,519. Mavrides had served as a voting MP for Disy since 2011. The result gives Nazouzi the single Maronite seat in parliament without voting rights.
Nazouzi, 56, is an accountant who co-founded accountancy firm Forvis Mazars in 2007 and remains a managing partner. He replaces Yiannakis Moussas, who served in the role from 2016 until last month and had highlighted recent improvements to village infrastructure and incentives that encouraged Maronite Cypriots to return to traditional villages. Nazouzi will sit alongside the non-voting Armenian and Latin representatives, Vartkes Mahdessian and Antonella Mantovani, elected unopposed earlier this month.
