📰 Forest firefighters call 48-hour strike then cancel after agreement
Forest firefighters on Monday called a 48-hour strike but cancelled it a little over an hour later after an agreement was reached for the forestry department to apply the service plan’s terms in full. The announcement by union Oekdy-Sek said the immediate action was withdrawn once the department agreed to reinstate the measures the unions had sought.
Trade unions Oekdy-Sek, Pasykek-Peo and Dee-Kdoko-Deok had argued that “violations” of the forestry service plan this season greatly reduced firefighters’ readiness to respond at short notice and created serious safety risks. They said the measures had been implemented at the start of last year’s season but were not applied this year, prompting letters and meetings. The unions added a dialogue will be held in October to address any remaining issues.
