📰 Eleven women elected to Cyprus parliament, just one in five MPs female
Eleven women won seats in Cyprus’s new 56-member House of Representatives, meaning women will hold just one in five parliamentary seats and underscoring that the political scene remains largely male-dominated despite pre-election debate on equal representation. The result combines re-elected figures and newcomers, showing limited but notable progress in female participation.
In Nicosia (19 seats) three women were re-elected: Savia Orphanidou (DISY), Christiana Erotokritou (DIKO) and Irene Charalambides (ALMA). Limassol (12 seats) returned Fotini Tsiridou (DISY) and Marina Nicolaou (AKEL) and brought in first-time MP Argentoula Ioannou (AKEL). Famagusta (11 seats) elected Diana Lucia Constantinidou (Direct Democracy) and Theoulitsa Drousiotou (ALMA). Anastasia Hasikou (AKEL) was elected in Kyrenia, Annita Demetriou (DISY) was re-elected in Larnaca without preference votes, and Nicoletta Constantinou (DISY) became the first woman MP elected in Paphos.
