🌍 Mitsotakis congratulates DISY and Annita Demetriou on election win, vows Greek support

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Monday congratulated DISY and its leader Annita Demetriou for finishing first in Sunday’s parliamentary election, calling the result a “victory” for both the party and its leader. He described the party of Glafcos Clerides as the clear leading force in Cyprus, said Cypriots chose stability, and wished success to the incoming members of the House, adding that Greece stands firmly by their side. European People’s Party leader Manfred Weber also offered his congratulations.

Demetriou met Mitsotakis shortly before the vote and has described Greece as DISY’s most steadfast supporter, stressing a relationship of trust and shared values with New Democracy. Media reports in Greece say Mitsotakis is considering holding Greece’s next parliamentary election around the Thessaloniki International Fair in September, possibly before the country assumes the EU Council rotating presidency next year. Glafcos Clerides founded DISY in 1976 and served in several senior roles in Cyprus politics.
