Cypriot sailor Pavlos Kontides secured his third European Championship title on Friday, winning the European Sailing Championship in Kastela, Croatia. Kontides finished the event with 39 points, edging Germany’s Philipp Buhl by one point (40) after two final races held on Friday. The victory is his third continental crown, following wins in La Rochelle in 2018 and Hyères in 2022.

The races took place in Kastela, about 7km from Split airport, where Kontides trains. He placed fifth in the first final race and 14th in the second, the latter not counting towards his points. The two-time Olympic silver medallist said he was very happy to win gold, particularly after struggling to recover from an injury.
