🏠 889 buildings in Larnaca district newly classified as dangerous
The Larnaca district government organisation (EOA) has identified 889 buildings as dangerous under updated listings, alongside 563 buildings recorded in earlier registers. The updated breakdown lists 427 in the municipality, 23 in Aradippou, 80 in Lefkara, 34 in Dromolaxia, 12 in Athienou and 313 in surrounding villages. Inspection teams have carried out 150 visual checks and returned around 100 reports; from those, officials classified 23 residential and 40 uninhabited buildings as Category C, indicating visible risk of collapse. Two buildings have been formally declared dangerous, with one evacuated and one issued an evacuation warning.
The expanded monitoring follows recent structural incidents, including the partial collapse of an abandoned house on Stavrodromiou Street that prompted emergency response and precautionary demolitions; no injuries were reported. Authorities said property owners remain legally responsible for repairs and enforcement action will be taken where necessary. Larnaca EOA said inspections are continuing, additional declarations are expected imminently, and the programme has been extended to cover at least 22 more buildings.
