Fire Service crews rescued an elderly person from a flooded house in Nicosia today after heavy rainfall and hailstorms hit the area, a Fire Service press office official said. Koulla Mesaritou said that by 12:30 pm the service had received multiple calls in the Nicosia district to pump water from flooded basements, clear rainwater drains and move telecommunications cables brought down by high winds. The rescue was one of several responses to flooding and storm damage.

The Fire Service also assisted crews from the Nicosia District Governance Organisation (EOA) and the Strovolos and Lakatamia municipalities in clearing drains and restoring safety. Teams focused on removing standing water and securing downed cables to prevent further hazards. There were no immediate reports of additional serious injuries.
