🌍 Average age in Cyprus rises to 41 in 2025 as elderly share grows
The average age of Cyprus reached 41 years on 1 January 2025, up from 34.9 in 2005 and 37 in 2015, Eurostat data show, meaning the population aged by four years in the last decade and 6.1 years over two decades. People aged 65 and over accounted for 13.9% of the population in 2025 (9.4% in 2005, 11.3% in 2015), while children up to 15 fell to 15.2% (19.9% in 2005). The working-age group (20–64) made up 61.7%, and 15–19 year-olds were 4.9% of the population.
The Eurostat release places Cyprus within a wider EU ageing trend: on 1 January 2025 there were 65 million children under 15 (14% of the EU) and 99 million people aged 65+ (22%). Ireland had the highest share of under-15s (nearly 19%) and Italy the lowest (12%). Italy recorded the highest national average age at 49.1 years, while Ireland had the lowest at 39.6 years.
