📰 105-year-old Argyri Achillea of Tala to vote as oldest voter in Paphos district
At 105 years old, Argyri Achillea of Tala will again cast her ballot as the oldest voter in the Paphos electoral district, planning to go to the polling station at 11:30 accompanied by her granddaughter Sophia. A mother of eight, she has repeatedly said she hopes to live long enough to vote for the next President and wishes for peace and love for Cyprus and the world.
Born and raised in the countryside, Achillea supported a large extended family—five sons, three daughters, 23 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great-grandchildren. Widowed for more than 27 years, her late husband ran a bus between Tala and Empa. She worked the land, harvested carob, repaired roads, and ran a village kafeneio. Her youngest son Alexandros cares for her daily while other children visit; she remains devout, proud of Tala and of the traditions and recipes she has passed down. She also said she is related to singer Cat Stevens (Yusuf Islam).
