⚔️ Cyprus National Guard celebrates 62 years reaffirming mission to protect republic's independence
The National Guard of Cyprus marked its 62nd anniversary on June 4, reaffirming its mission to safeguard the independence, territorial integrity, and security of the Republic of Cyprus. Established in 1964 following the removal of Turkish Cypriots from government roles, the Guard's foundation remains closely tied to the country's modern history.
Described as a modern and combat-ready deterrent, the National Guard maintains high operational readiness to address contemporary security threats. The official statement emphasized that its mission has remained unchanged since its inception, focusing on confronting any threats to Cyprus’s sovereignty.
Thousands of Cypriots have served in both permanent and reserve roles over the past six decades. Mandatory military service continues to play a central role in national defense, with reservists forming an essential part of the National Guard’s operational capabilities.
