🧒 Cyprus expands all-day school programme with 60 new schools for 2024-2025
The all-day school programme in Cyprus will expand significantly this September, with 60 additional schools joining the initiative. This increase brings the total to 378 schools across all districts, aiming for full coverage by 2028. Education Minister Athena Michaelides highlighted that the move is part of the government's commitment to provide equal opportunities to all students and support families nationwide.
The extended school hours will run until 3pm or 4pm, focusing on urban and rural areas alike. The programme is being qualitatively upgraded, with an emphasis on integrating learning and creativity beyond traditional childcare. The curriculum will strengthen subjects like information technology and English, creating a seamless educational experience between morning and afternoon sessions.
Teachers for the all-day schools are appointed directly from waiting lists, eliminating outsourcing. Michaelides described these schools as one of the government's flagship initiatives, designed to enhance student development and better support working families.
